Print academy launched
Printwear today can exclusively reveal that a print academy will be launched next month for garment decorators. Dawn Davison-Read speaks to Mike Betts, Native Promotions and Sara Sanders-Smith Result Clothing about the academy and identifies why it is likely to be a major hit with garment decorators across the length and breadth of the country…
It has been widely documented about the issues that some printers face when decorating coated or uncoated substrates such as nylons and polyesters, etc., and in particular when printing jackets. This is all set to change, however, with the introduction of a new print academy from Native Promotions.
Talking exclusively to Printwear Today, Mike Betts, Native Promotions’ Director said, “The purpose of launching the Native Print Academy, is to meet the many and varying needs of garment decorators across the UK, and Europe, who have concerns about printing on substrates other than cotton. Over the years, we have received an increasing number of requests for advice on how to produce quality prints on garments such as jackets and other promotional items including bags, inflatable chairs and so forth. It was for this very reason we decided to launch a Print Academy to provide other garment decorators with the knowledge and expertise that we have gained over the years.”
The Native Print Academy, due to be launched at the P&P trade show next month, on the Academy's main sponsor, Result Clothings' stand (No; b40) will cover all forms of printing including screen, transfer and digital. Garment decorators and printers will be invited to attend courses covering how to print in single and multi colour on a varying range of substrates.
Meeting a need
The one-day course will cost in the region of £250 with follow-up day courses available from £150. Explaining further Mike said, “We will be demonstrating and teaching a wide variety of tricks and techniques to enable garment decorators to produce superior quality prints on substrates they may have thought difficult to print on in the past. EG, we will show attendees the best way to print Softshell – and with the support of Result, will be using its jackets to demonstrate how garment decorators can meet the needs of their customers.”
Commenting on the use of Result Jackets, and the support that the brand is leveraging to the Print Academy, Sara Sanders-Smith, Marketing and Sales Director, Result Clothing said, “As Europe’s leading supplier of promotional outer garments, Result styles its' jackets with access for the decorator in mind, so is a natural supporter of what the Native Print Academy wants to achieve.”
Expertise and experience
“We have worked with Mike and Native for over 20 years but have always been, ‘the go-between’, fielding our customers questions and batting back Mike’s expertise. With the rapid emergence of jackets as a promotional substrate, it was obvious to us that printers were left rather unsupported knowledge-wise and many were reluctant to even touch jackets due to potential losses from mis-prints and increased downtime from having to handle much bulkier items; and that was before they had even decided on how to print them!”
Explaining further Sara said, “There is a general misconception that today’s technical fabric finishes need complicated print procedures and yes, whilst there may still be a certain amount of trial and error, the Native Print Academy can minimise this by offering a no-nonsense, common sense approach to direct and transfer printing.”
Sara strongly believes that this academy is an additional advisory service to Result’s print Customers. Concluding, she said, “Of course, by using Result garments, the academy adds an unexpected kudos to our brand and we hope printers will continue using what they have practiced on - making Result, once again, the printers Favourite!”
Regarding equipment, Adelco is providing support to the academy with manual as well as automated screen equipment.
The Native Print Academy will be held on the first Tuesday of every month commencing in May 2008 and a maximum of ten places per course will be available. A new web site providing full details and booking information will be live at the end of February. www.nativepromotions.com.
