First Words
It’s not often that I’m at a loss for words, and those that know me will undoubtedly agree, however, following the launch of Printwear Today I was overwhelmed by the response we received from both readers and suppliers to this industry - both myself and the entire publishing team thank you, and we are exceedingly delighted to have met so many needs. What’s more we promise to continue setting standards and ‘raising the game’ with each and every issue.

Stop Press!
Adelco will be introducing a brand new product later this year from Kornit, The Unit, aptly named, is a digital head for use on screen-printing machines and will provide the many benefits of digital technology to current screen printing equipment.
Fair labour award for Gildan
Gildan Activewear has received accreditation from the Fair Labour Association, verifying the company’s compliance with its workplace code of conduct requirements. To date, the FLA has only accredited eight companies worldwide, the majority of which are consumer apparel brands who outsource their manufacturing. Gildan is the only vertically-integrated basic activewear apparel manufacturer to receive accreditation.
Digitising service
Interworld has launched an extra to its UK based digitising service, in order to help embroiderers with sampling. Essentially the company is now providing a photograph of the machine tested sample, once the digitised emblem has been created it is supplied in a variety of formats.
Ink rewards
Ink Promotions has launched a points reward scheme as a unique way to reward customer loyalty. The scheme features over 2000 gifts, experiences and even charity donations. Points are awarded for orders placed and Ink Promotions will be running promotions throughout the year offering extra points on certain items and for referrals.
National skills academy becomes reality
The Department for Education and Skills has authorised Skillsfast-UK to turn the dream of a National Skills Academy (NSA) for the fashion, textiles and jewellery sector into a reality. Backed by a consortium of Further Education establishments and Centres of Vocational Excellence, the NSA help spread learning provision across the UK.
Beechfield and Quadra launch new linked websites
Headwear and bag brands, Beechfield and Quadra have transformed their online presence with the launch of new, linked websites – www.beechfield.com and www.quadrabags.com, respectively. The sites contain a wealth of information on the individual collections, with a quick link allowing visitors to switch between the sites at the click of their mouse button. “It is essential to make it quick, simple and reliable for our customers to choose the correct product,” Roger McHugh, Beechfield director, comments. “The new websites will provide a fast, efficient and convenient means of viewing the Beechfield and Quadra 2007 collections.” Each product page contains a large photograph accompanied by key product details. There is a separate ‘Colourways’ section containing thumbnail images of the product in all of its available colours. The two websites are individually branded, and a one-click link at the top of each page allows visitors to switch between the two sites with ease. The launch of the new Beechfield and Quadra websites completes the first phase of an ongoing development process.
EFS brings garment decoration in-house
EFS (Engineering and Foundry Suppliers) diversified into the garment decoration business during the late ‘80s. Stephen Frost explains, “We began diversifying into the decorated garment industry when customers began asking for embroidered and printed PPE garments, initially we farmed these out however toward the end of the 90’s we were getting busier with a growing customer base requesting more and more promowear.”
Over 1000 square metres of “Great Moments” for Wembley themed bars
OMMprint, won the prestigious contract to design, print and install all the imagery and panelling for the Wembley Experience themed bars and concourse at the new Wembley Stadium. The project was completed in good time to ensure that Wembley was fully decorated when it first opened its doors for this year’s FA Cup Final.
Screen printing course for beginners
Farncombe Estate has confirmed the dates in October (3-5) for a screen-printing course. Aimed at beginners the course will cover the basics of printing text on cotton fabrics using acrylic paints through computer generated lettering on screens.
