Considerable expansion plans for Elms Marketing
Highlighting that not all garment decoration has gone offshore, Elms Marketing has recently outgrown its 14,000 sq. ft premises in Cheshire and moved to a new 20,000 sq.ft facility within the Maccelsfield area. Discussing the expansion of the business, Guy Walker told Printwear Today, "We have been aggressively attacking the market and are looking to re-shape the business with further expansion plans. Hence our need to increase our premises."
Buck the economic downturn
Following fears of a poor Christmas, official data from the Office for National Statistics revealed a worse than expected fall in retail sales during December with a gloomy forecast for 2008.

Printwear UK exhibition cancelled
Printwear UK, the new national event for the garment decorating industry, due to be held next month, has been cancelled. Commenting on the decision to withdraw the event, organiser Nick Carpenter said, "We arranged the exhibition following direct requests from the industry for us to do so. And although we had received a high level of companies agreeing to support the show, there were a few exhibitors who had booked large stands, but who were not prepared to either relinquish the stand space or sign a contract.
Are regional events the future?
Following the recent announcement of a series of one day exhibitions, titled GPD (Garment and Product Decoration) which will be held at venues in London, Bristol, Harrogate, Scotland and Dublin. The question must be addressed, are regional events the future? "We believe they are," stated the organiser, Nick Carpenter. And the reason for this forthright statement, "When you consider the economics of attending a national event for many garment decorators, and in particular the heightened travel costs, bringing a roadshow to the decorator meets the needs of every facet of the industry."

UK Leisurewear (UKL) will be introducing a new loyalty scheme in January 2008. Speaking exclusively to Printwear Today about the new scheme, Alex Worlock, UKL said, "The new loyalty scheme has been designed to allow our customers to either incentivise their sales teams or receive rewards themselves evey time they place orders."

Wow transfer paper continues to be a hit
The WoW transfer paper continues to impress the crowds, according to Jim Nicol, The Magictouch. Recently returning from SGIA, where the product was introduced, the company was overwhelmed by the interest it created. Commenting Jim told Printwear Today, “During the four day show we processed over 900 actual leads from clients requesting samples.”

Partnership leads to eco alternative to plastisol inks

BGDF re-brands to offer more services such as recruitment
Although still in its first year, the BGDF has just got a whole new look with a brand new website and forum. In updating the site, the BGDF has also added a situations vacant section and an e-commerce element. Whilst membership continues to grow, the forum needs more decorators to use the site in order for the industry to benefit from it. The new recruitment section enables members to advertise job vacancies on-line and free of charge.
J&A’s new division cuts up a storm
J&A (International) Ltd has confirmed the launch of a new division, Creative, which will add plotter cutters, and a range of transfer films to J&A’s existing offerring of custom printed transfers. J&A’s Sales Director Adrian Apletree said, “The range of films has been developed for maximum ease, performance and simplicity. In fact the name of the core range, “Pro-Seal Verso” is derived from the ethic of versatility.” Commenting further, he pointed out, “As well as a wide range of standard colours we can even specially manufacture sheets of colour-matched cuttable material (Pro-Seal Spectrum) matched from a physical colour swatch or to a Pantone reference.”
Growth in organic cotton
According to a new report published by the Organic Exchange, demand for organic cotton has helped drive a rapid growth in production and sales over the last year. The report identifies that the amount of organic cotton produced globally rose by 53% from 2005/06 to 2006/07. The report also indicates that global organic cotton demand will see huge increments during 2008 with forecasts of the rise between 25 and 55% during the next 12 months. Its latest research, however, shows Turkey, India and China leading organic cotton production, with nearly half (44.9%) being grown in the Middle East .
